Mark Holtz Sports Broadcasting Scholarship
Named Texas play-by-play sportscaster for the year eight times, and elected to the Texas Baseball Hall of Fame in 1990, Mark Holtz was the Texas Rangers’ lead radio announcer for 13 years. He passed away on September 7, 1997. To honor his memory, the Texas Rangers Baseball Foundation awards two scholarships to students at UTA pursuing careers in Broadcast Journalism.
Applicants must:
- be enrolled in a minimum of 12 hours for fall semester and continue on to enroll in 12 hours in spring semester
- must maintain a 3.0 gpa,
Note: Prior Mark Holtz award recipients are ineligible to apply for an additional award.
In order to apply, you must submit the following:
- an application
- provide an unofficial transcript
- two letters of recommendation from UTA Department of Communication faculty
- 500 word or less essay on “Why I Want a Career in Broadcast Journalism.”
Scholarship recipients are recognized on the field at a Texas Rangers game held over the summer or early fall. Recipients must send the Texas Rangers Foundation an official transcript and essay at the conclusion of the fall semester in order to receive the spring disbursement.
