Nursing Student Loan (NSL)

The Nursing Student Loan (NSL) is a promissory note between The University of Texas at Arlington and the Secretary of Health and Human Services for undergraduate nursing majors only. This is NOT a scholarship but a loan that must be repaid. Applicants must be a citizen or national of the United States, or a lawful permanent resident of the United States. This loan is designated for upper division undergraduate BSN students who have completed 12 credit hours. This loan is only for payment of tuition. Before disbursements are made, applicants will be required to ‘accept’ the loan, and complete an interview. There are a limited number of loans available.

  • To determine need-based eligibility, a FASFA application must be submitted online (https://studentaid.gov/ ) at least one week prior to the loan application deadline.
  • This loan is for spring 2024 semester. Students, who apply after December 20th, may not receive their loan prior to the start of the spring semester. The loan will be awarded once processed.
  • Students, awarded the loan, must re-apply every spring semester for the upcoming academic year. Academic year starts in summer and includes fall and spring.
