Corporal Joey Cushman Endowed Scholarship in Criminology/Criminal Justice (The)

College of Liberal Arts – Criminology and Criminal Justice This scholarship was established by his family to honor the memory of Corporal Joey Cushman of the Arlington Police Department, Arlington, Texas. Corporal Cushman was shot and killed during a training exercise in 2001. Corporal Cushman was an exceptional person, dedicated to police work and improving the community. He believed that every individual should be given an opportunity to reach his/her fullest potential. His legacy of enthusiastic spirit and community service will be celebrated by providing financial scholarships to students who share his vision.
• Students must be majoring in criminology/criminal justice
• Must be a commissioned police officer or the child or grandchild of an active or retired commissioned police officer
• Must be a sophomore or above
• Have an overall 3.0 GPA the previous year
• Write a letter of acknowledgment to the Cushman Family about the recipient’s need and appreciation of the scholarship when awarded.
• Additional preference will be given if the student is active in community service programs and/or active in departmental, university or other student organizations related to the discipline of criminology/criminal justice at the University of Texas at Arlington.
