Karl M. Petruso Scholarship for Honors Fieldwork in the Liberal Arts

Named after Professor of Anthropology and former Dean of the Honors College, the Karl M. Petruso Honors Scholarship for Fieldwork in the Liberal Arts is designed to support research that requires an Honors student in a Liberal Arts discipline to spend several weeks away from campus during the summer. “Fieldwork” is construed broadly to include any of the following: work in an archive, a writer’s workshop, a music camp, a specialized institute, an intensive foreign language program in a language that is essential to the student’s research but not taught at UTA, etc. The award may not be used to fund participation in study abroad programs, whether sponsored by UTA or any other entity.

Honors students who wish to be considered for the Petruso Scholarship will submit an application that outlines the nature of the fieldwork, as well as its relevance to their immediate research agenda and subsequent academic and professional goals.

Eligibility: Full-time active Honors students in a Liberal Arts major who are in good academic standing and making sufficient progress toward their Honors degree (generally, this equates to at least six hours per academic year). Funds will be disbursed to student accounts in late spring 2023. Travel must take place during the summer semester, typically between May 15 and August 15, 2023. This scholarship is not renewable. Applicants who do not meet the criteria will not be considered.
